Turn the Page

img_5625Once there was a little girl who turned to her family at three years old and said, “I want to be an actress!” She may have said it with a little flair and drama. Family giggled and said, “Yes, dear.”

That girl grew and kept repeating that phrase, “I want to be an actress.”

She got older and started taking part in any theatre show she could find.

She became an adult, booked an agent in LA, and moved out to a city so large she almost lost herself.

She pursued acting and got some fun roles, but she began to be aware of a burden growing too heavy to carry.

After many years of struggle with this burden, she finally laid it down.

Yesterday, I released my membership in SAG-AFTRA, the union for actors.

Today, I’m launching my Kickstarter campaign to fund the publishing of my first book, Girl with the Sparkling Eyes.

Although these two events have seemed unrelated in some ways, I’m realizing the timing is absolutely perfect.

I released the dream of acting almost two years ago after an insane epiphany that it wasn’t really my dream after all. But somehow the SAG membership was something I couldn’t let go. It had taken a lot to gain that membership. It was a sign that my efforts weren’t all for naught. And yet, maybe it was holding me back from the next chapter in my story.

Sometimes the pages of our lives flip by without us even noticing. Sometimes we get stuck reading the same pages over and over, unable to turn the page.

Sometimes we take a deep breath and we turn the page, hoping the next chapter will be the best one yet.

Although it has taken me a while to make the shift from actor to writer, I literally can’t imagine pursuing anything else. I love writing! I love the art of sharing words that touch other people. When they respond, their words touch my heart, too. I’m hoping and praying that this back and forth exchange can continue for many, many years.

Will you join me as I turn the page?

What page are you turning in your life? Or what was one of the most remarkable page turns you’ve experienced?

If you’d like to check out my Kickstarter, you can do that here. I’d so appreciate you sharing it with your peeps if you have a chance. Thank you!!
